Born in Bulgaria, Silvia Entcheva started singing folk songs at the age of nine with a local folk ensemble “Iskar”. She won a singing competition allowing her to go on her first tours in Greece and Italy with this ensemble. At the age of eighteen she won another singers competition with the world-renowned Bulgarian choir “Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares”, which won a Grammy Award in 1990. Silvia Entcheva toured Europe with this choir performing at most prestigious venues, took part in charity concerts and concerts for radio and television. Then followed performances in Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, ex-Yugoslavia, Hungary, etc. With the choir Silvia recorded CD’s, videos and music for movies. Migrating to Australia in 1994, she has been performing as a soloist and also a member of the Martenitsa Choir, the Silvia Entcheva Trio and as lead singer with the recently formed acappella trio “Pippero”. She performed in a number or music festivals around Australia and taught at numerous “voice workshops” (The National Folk Festival in Canberra, the Sydney Festival of the Streets and Melbourne Winter Acappella Festival, amongst others). She has performed several times at Woodford Folk Festival and appeared as a sololist in 2002/2003 at Concert Stage, Folklorica Stage and the Amphitheatre on New Years Eve. Silvia recorded concerts for the ABC Radio, took part in recording “Sezoni” with Mara! and the Martenitsa Choir; “Inside this room” with David Hirshfelder and David Hobson; and in recording the soundtrack for the popular TV series “Farscape”. She also released her first album with Silvia Entcheva Trio - “The Donkey Drank Wine”, which has been nominated for World Music Album of the Year 1999. Silvia has also been nominated for Female Artist of the Year 1999 and Year 2000. In 2004 Silvia performed as a soloist for the Legs On The Wall production "Homeland" at the BerlinWERKstadt Festival in Germany. In 2005 Silvia has performed as a soloist at Dalesford Festival, WOMADelaide Festival, Koprivshtitsa National Festival in Bulgaria and WOMAD Festival in Reading, England. She has released her second album (solo a cappella) - "If I Were A Bird" and launched it at Cygnet Folk Festival, Tasmania (January, 2006).
